- Submitted
grant application to the Florida Department of Community Affairs/Florida Communities
Trust under the Florida Forever Program requesting $975,000 for the
acquisition of land to expand Loggerhead
Preserve Park.
- Attended
Planning and Zoning Board meeting. Actions taken include:
- Formulated
recommendations for an ordinance requiring underground electric service
for all new construction, electrical upgrades or major renovations which
includes an electrical upgrade. Planned for consideration by the Town
Commission at either its June or July regular meeting.
- Finalized
recommendation for amendments to the Land Development Regulations related
to Ocean Avenue
business districts. To be presented for Town Commission consideration at
a special meeting on June 6, 2007.
- Discussed
amendments to regulations related to the construction of walls and
fences. Requested development of ordinance reflecting amendments.
- Public
Works staff completed mowing of Oak Street.
- Public
Works staff replaced remaining Town limits signs on A1A.
- Advertised
“Notice of Bid” for the Oak Street
Pedway Corrective Action Plan Implementation Project.
- Revised
schedule for raising the Ryckman House to Tuesday, May 15, 2007. Youngblood Building Movers,
Inc. will raise the structure allowing for the construction of the
foundation.
- Attended
Labor & Employment Law seminar sponsored by the law firm of Ford &
Harrison.
- Attended
Brevard County Managers Association meeting to discuss legislative actions
relative property tax reform, and the FEMA disaster reimbursement program.
- Attended
2007 Community Leaders Briefing held at the Kennedy
Space Center.
- Received
agreement between the Town of Melbourne Beach and the Florida Division of
Emergency Management under the FEMA grant program for engineering, design
and permitting services related to stormwater improvements for Sixth
Avenue, Andrews Drive
and Harland Avenue.
Grant amount equals $46,800, with a required local match of $15,000, for a
total project cost of $61,800. The agreement is under review, with
presentation planned for Commission consideration on June 20, 2007.
- Determined
Ryckman Park
well can not be repaired. Received cost estimate of $5,995 for new,
replacement well. Working with the SJRWMD to obtain funds under their
“Well Abandonment Program” for filling the well. Current well is a 12”
artesian well, reportedly installed in 1929. Estimated cost of filling
with concrete required to abandon is $5,000-$10,000.
- Met
with staff of Brevard County
and Indialantic to discuss defects in workmanship by RKT Constructors,
Inc. associated with the construction of the County wastewater line in 2002.
Line was installed in Melbourne Beach
along Pine Street, Andrews
Drive, Shannon
Avenue, Magnolia
Avenue and South
Palm Avenue. Experiencing damage to pavement
result from the settling of sub-surface materials. In process of
determining extent of damage, necessary repairs and strategy for
proceedings with claim for damages.
