TOWN COMMISSION - SPECIAL MEETING

 THURSDAY

A special meeting of the Town Commission of the Town of Melbourne Beach, Florida was called to order by 
by Vice Mayor Smith at 12:32 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2002 in the Community Center.  Vice Mayor Smith 
also led the Pledge of Allegiance

Present:  

Vice Mayor  Smith
Commissioner Crispen
Commissioner  Walters

Others Present:  

Town Manager Hoskovec
Candidate Paul Guglietta
Candidate William G. Stacey
Town Clerk Masny

I.      QUALIFICATION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE ONE (1) COMMISSIONER-AT-LARGE SEAT IN THE 
        NOVEMBER 5, 2002 SPECIAL ELECTION
        Town Clerk Masny stated that the Town Commission had extended the qualifying period until 12:00 p.m. 
        today for candidates to qualify for the special election that will be held on November 5, 2002 along with the 
        general municipal election.

        Town Clerk Masny stated that two (2) candidates qualified for the Commission seat in the special election, 
        Sherri Quarrie and Sandy Wilson.  Town Clerk Masny stated that both candidates qualified by:  appointing a 
        campaign treasurer and opening a campaign checking account and paying the filing fee out of the account; 
        obtaining signatures of 25 registered voters in Melbourne Beach; signing a Willingness to Serve Statement; 
        signing a Loyalty Oath; and, signing a Statement of Candidate.

        Town Clerk Masny stated that the Town Commission needs to qualify the candidates and request that their 
        names be placed on the special election ballot.

        Vice Mayor Smith asked for discussion by the Town Commission, there was no discussion. 

        Vice Mayor Smith asked for comments from the public.  There were no comments from the public.

        COMMISSIONER WALTERS MOVED, SECOND COMMISSIONER CRISPEN TO QUALIFY CANDIDATES 
        SHERRI QUARRIE AND SANDY WILSON FOR THE COMMISSIONER-AT-LARGE SEAT IN THE NOVEMBER 5, 
        2002 SPECIAL ELECTION AND THAT THEIR NAMES BY PLACED ON THE BALLOT.  
        VOTE:  ALL AYES.  MOTION CARRIED.


II.     ADJOURNMENT
        COMMISSIONER WALTERS MOVED, SECOND COMMISSIONER CRISPEN TO ADJOURN.  
        VOTE:  ALL AYES.  MOTION CARRIED.

The special meeting of the Town Commission of the Town of Melbourne Beach, Florida adjourned at 12:38 p.m.
