DISCUSSION OF THE APPLICANTS FOR THE TOWN MANAGER POSITION
The Town Commission reviewed the discussion of the January 17, 2002 workshop regarding the applicants
for the Town Manager position and held discussion regarding additional information they received after further
investigating the references of the applicants interviewed at the workshop.
At this point, the Town Commission did not feel comfortable considering appointing an applicant to the Town
Manager position. After a discussion and consultation with the Interim Town Manager regarding the position,
It is the consensus of the Town Commission that Interim Town Manager Masny contact applicant Amy Arrington
to see if she is interested in interviewing for the Interim Town Manager and advise her that the Town is continuing
to look for a permanent Town Manager and that she would be considered for the position. Also the Interim Town
Manager is to let Ms. Arrington know that the Town Commission is concerned about her inexperience for the
permanent position and that, by serving in the interim position, she will have an opportunity to show her knowledge
of the position.
The Interim Town Manager is also requested to readvertise the Town Manager position as soon as possible in those
media avenues that are website based and report back to the Town Commission what the requirements are for
instantaneous publications and that she investigate the other publications for advertising and bring this information
back to the Town Commission for possible action. The Town Commission reviewed the previous requirements listed
in the advertisement for Town Manager: prior Florida experience; 4-year degree in public administration or business
administration, plus 3 years' experience as Town Manager or Assistant Town Manager or comparable experience in
the field; knowledge of laws and administrative policies governing budgeting and finance, and fire, police and public
works operations required; salary range $50,000 to $60,000, depending on qualifications.
After a discussion regarding the advertised salary range for the Town Manager, it is the consensus of the Town
Commission that the advertisement read: salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The deadline
for receiving resumes for the instantaneous advertisement is set for February 4, 2002.
It is the consensus of the Town Commission that if Amy Arrington does not agree to interview to serve as Interim
Town Manager, Interim Town Manager Masny contact Bill Hoskovec from Avenue B in Melbourne Beach to see if
he is interested in interviewing for the Interim Town Manager position, and that the Range Riders also be contacted
for a list of available interim Town Managers. Interim Town Manager Masny is requested to call a meeting as soon
as interviews with Arrington and Hoskovec are set up.
The workshop of the Town Commission of the Town of Melbourne Beach, Florida adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
